AWARDS WON

Dan's work was influenced by Wassily Sommer, an Alaskan artist/teacher with whom he worked for 10 years in Anchorage, Alaska.  From Wassily he learned and uses a classical technique which involves under-painting with earth tones (usually umber or burnt sienna) to set composition and values, then over-painting with oils both opaque and transparent.

His use of color was also influenced by a short period of work with artists Sergei Bongart, Ron Lukas, and Del Gish, a group who held summer workshops in Rexburg, Idaho.
